Quasielastic electron scattering from nuclei: Random-phase vs ring approximations
نویسندگان
چکیده
We investigate the extent to which the nuclear transverse response to electron scattering in the quasielastic region, evaluated in the random-phase approximation, can be described by ring approximation calculations. Different effective interactions based on a standard model of the type g81Vp1Vr are employed. For each momentum transfer, we have obtained the value of g08 permitting the ring response to match the position of the peak and/or the non-energy-weighted sum rule provided by the random-phase approach. It is found that, in general, it is not possible to reproduce both magnitudes simultaneously for a given g08 value. @S0556-2813~99!01605-2#

Coulomb distortion of relativistic electrons in the nuclear electrostatic field
Continuum states of the Dirac equation are calculated numerically for the electrostatic field generated by the charge distribution of an atomic nucleus. The behavior of the wave functions of an incoming electron with a given asymptotic momentum in the nuclear region is discussed in detail and the results are compared to different approximations used in the data analysis for quasielastic electro...
متن کاملElectroweak quasielastic response functions in nuclear matter
Quasielastic electromagnetic and parity-violating electron scattering response functions of relativistic nuclear matter are reviewed. The roles played by the Hartree-Fock field and by nuclear correlations in the Random Phase Approximation (treated within the continued fraction scheme) are illustrated. The parity-violating responses of nuclei to polarized electrons are also revisited, stressing ...
متن کاملEffective interaction in quasielastic electron scattering calculations
The transverse nuclear response for quasifree electron scattering is discussed. The analysis is done by comparing different calculations performed in the random-phase approximation and ring approximation frameworks. The importance of the exchange terms in this energy region is investigated and the changes in the nuclear responses due to the modification of the interaction are evaluated. The cal...

A continuum random phase approximation ~RPA! method for evaluating the structure function of nuclear matter is developed, where exchange terms for any particle-hole interaction are explicitly included. The method is applied to the inclusive transverse quasielastic electron scattering response at momentum transfer ranging from q5300 to 550 MeV/c . The interaction employed is a g8 Landau-Migdal c...
متن کاملInfluence of the nuclear medium on inclusive electron and neutrino scattering off nuclei
We present a model for inclusive electron and neutrino scattering off nuclei paying special attention to the influence of in-medium effects on the quasielastic scattering and pion-production mechanisms. Our results for electron scattering off 16O are compared to experimental data at beam energies ranging from 0.7 to 1.5 GeV. The good description of electron scattering serves as a benchmark for ...
